Whanganui Community Foundation unveils refreshed strategy, brand and digital presence

The Whanganui Community Foundation has launched a refreshed strategic framework alongside a new brand identity and website, marking a significant step forward in its commitment to growing community impact across the region.

The updated strategic framework refines the Foundation’s direction and priorities, ensuring it is well positioned for the future while remaining grounded in its core purpose. A key feature of the framework is a new foundational goal: growing the Foundation’s fund by $7.5 million to increase the long-term support available to communities across Whanganui, Rangitīkei and Waimarino.

Chair Kathy Cunningham, says the changes reflect both ambition and responsibility.
“This refreshed strategy sharpens our focus so we can deepen the impact we have across our communities, respond to emerging needs, and build a stronger resource for future generations.

Alongside the strategy, the Foundation has introduced a new visual identity, developed by a local designer and inspired by the region it serves. At the heart of the brand is an abstract ‘W’ motif, which acts as a bridge of support – woven together to symbolise the strength and unity of the Whanganui, Rangitīkei and Waimarino communities.

The colour palette draws directly from the local landscape. Deep navy, teal and citrus greens evoke the river, the bush and the hills that define these districts, reinforcing the Foundation’s deep connection to place.

Chief Executive Marianne Cavanagh says the new look is more than a visual change.

“Our new brand tells a story about who we are and who we serve. It reflects connection, continuity and care – values that underpin everything we do. We’re also proud to have partnered with Jellyfish Creative to bring this identity to life, ensuring it is genuinely grounded in the place and communities we serve.”

The launch also includes a newly redesigned website, created with the community at its heart. The site makes it easier to find information about grants and funding, while also providing a dedicated space to celebrate and share the stories of the people, projects and organisations the Foundation supports.

“This is about making it simpler for people to be part of something bigger,” says Marianne. “Whether you’re looking to give, apply for funding, or see the impact happening across our region, the new website opens that door.”

The Foundation encourages the community to explore the new site and learn more about its vision for the future.
